Women play a significant and crucial role in agricultural development and allied fields. Rural women's work ranges from crop production to harvesting operations, from live stock rearing to raising babies. In addition to her daily work routine, consisting of, cooking, cleaning and other domestic chores, rural women are also heavily involved in all aspects of country's agricultural sector. From crop production to livestock rearing, rural women are expected to regularly engage both domestic and commercial aspects of society. Despite such a huge contribution, her role has yet not been recognized. By and large they have remained invisible workers. Therefore, efforts were made to analyze the work performed by women in agriculture. The study was undertaken in Poonch district of Jammu division. A total of 150 farm women were selected as respondents through proportionate random sampling. The selected respondents were interviewed personally using pre-tested well structured interview schedule. The data were analysed using appropriate statistical tool. The findings showed that cutting, picking, cleaning of grains, drying of grains, storage, processing, weeding, winnowing were the major farm operations, which are mainly performed by farm women. Participation of farm women in agriculture was significantly affected by socio-economic variables like-age, family income, land holding.Keywords

The study was carried out to find out the constraints faced by the plum growers of Poonch area in production and marketing of the produce and the suggestions made by them to overcome the problems. Two tehsils, Mandi and Surankot of district Poonch were selected, from each tehsil five villages and from these five villages fifty respondents were selected for the study. The findings of the study revealed that fluctuation in market prices was the major problem which accounted for 90 per cent, high commission charges accounted for 80 per cent followed by irrigation i.e. scarcity of water in summer (78%), non - availability of transport facility in time (76%), non - availability of labour in time (70%), high cost of fertilizers (64%), non - availability of quality planting material (60%) and fertilizers in time (58%) and non - availability of good packing material (52%). To overcome these problems suggestions were made them. They suggested transport facility in time, good quality packing material be available at low cost, availability of mechanical grading and packing facility, export facility outside the district, knowledge regarding pruning and production technology, facility provided for processing of fruits and cold storage van for their transportation.Keywords

Marigold is an important commercial crop among all flower crops. Its flowers are available year around. Marigold flowers are used for various purposes like : worshipping , as cut flower, for beautification of beds and borders in lawns, in textile industry and for medicinal purpose. Marigold cultivation is highly commercialised now a days. But still area and production of marigold under Jammu province is less due to several factors. The present study was undertaken in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir to investigate the constraints faced by marigold growers during production and marketing of marigold. This district consists of eight blocks from which block Hiranagar, Barnoti, and Kathua were selected purposively. From each block four villages and from each village thirty farmers were selected, where the farmers were having largest area under marigold cultivation. A random sample of 120 farmers were drawn by randomization. A structured interview schedule was prepared for collection of data with a view to study various aspects regarding marigold cultivation. The data were collected through pre structured interview schedule and statistical procedure were employed to analyse the data. The study highlighted that majority of farmers had medium knowledge as well as medium level of adoption of marigold production techniques. The study further highlighted that majority of farmers were not adopting marigold cultivation due to various constraints like input constraint, technical constraints, economic constraints, extension constraints and marketing constraints. The major constraints expressed by marigold grower in each group of constraints were lack of timely availability of good quality seed material, lack of knowledge about production technology, high cost of hybrid seeds, lack of information through mass media and lack of co-operative institutions for marketing.Keywords

Benefits of red flush guava : Red flush guava (Psidium guajava L.), belongs to family Myrtaceae and its fruit type is berry. It is very tasty, energetic, richest sources of carotenoid. The edible portions of the fruit are Thalamus and pericarp. The common types of guava include apple guava, yellow-fruited cherry guava, strawberry guava, and red apple guava. Among the different type of guavas, red flush guava is one of most important fruit crops of tropics and subtropics region and most popular among the fruit growers community of India due to its unique flavour, taste, pink coloured pulp and numerous health-promoting qualities, the fruit easily fits in the new functional foods category, often called “super-fruits.” Pink guava, unlike white guava has a pink coloured sweet pulp loaded with seeds.- Chitinase Enzyme Activity and Pathogenicity of Lecanicillium lecanii Against Mustard Aphid Lipaphis erysimi (Kalt.)

Lecanicillium lecanii (Zimmerman) Zare and Gams is an entomopathogenic fungi used as an alternative biocontrol agent against crop pests. Lipaphis erysimi (Kalt.) is an important pest of Brassica family. The present study evaluates the efficacy of three Lecanicillium lecanii isolates against the nymphs of Lipaphis erysimi (Kalt.). Bioassay revealed nymphal mortality as 66.68, 62.23 and 42.50% of L. lecanii NIPHM, L. lecanii MTCC 956 and L. lecanii MTCC 2056, respectively at maximum concentration (@12 g/ l). Extracellular enzyme activity of fungal isolates when evaluated revealed variation in the level of enzyme secretion. The maximum chitinase and n-acetyl-β-D-hexosaminidase activity (0.48 and 0.41 U/ ml) were observed in L. lecanii NIPHM on 6th day of incubation.Keywords
